The Power of Appreciation on Thanksgiving

One of the best ways of finding happiness in life is to appreciate the things that we have, as opposed to the things that we lack. If we spend our time thinking about all of those little things that we want in life, but either don't have them or perhaps they're certain goals that we haven't yet achieved, we're basically not living in the moment, or enjoying life to the fullest. 

The amount of happiness that we have each and every day is all based on our perception and how we feel about things, and whether or not we appreciate them. If we start focusing on all of the positive things that we have in life, then we'll all be a little bit happier. One of the biggest problems that we all have in which takes away so much of our happiness is that we're always worrying. We have endless concerns about things, which many times, we don't even have control over. 

It's important not to rush things in life or to want things before you're ready to have them. Some of the best things in life take time to develop, patience, and simply having a positive outlook. Try to embrace all of the good things in your life, and enjoy the moment, each day, and all of the little things that go on in your life. The more thankful and appreciative that we are about the little things that we have in life, the more that we'll be whole and a complete person. As well, if we appreciate what we have, we'll be more apt to take on different challenges, and we'll have so so more enthusiasm towards striving towards our goals.

Having a positive outlook is imperative for each and every one of us, and that's why we need to focus on the positives in life, and not avoid the negatives, or ignore them by any means, but more so, we should simply be appreciative of all of the good things in our life and acknowledge them. When we don't appreciate things enough, we tend to lose them or they tend to not be maintained in their best manner. This goes from everything from relationships to your personal belongings, or even in regards to how you look in your appearance. 

If we take care of ourselves and love ourselves enough, it's a way of appreciating how we are, and how we look. You see, when we appreciate how we look, we tend to take better care of ourselves. Be thankful for all of the things that you have in life, and remember on this Thanksgiving Day, as well as any other day of the year, you should be thankful for what you have and concentrate on those things, as opposed to what you lack. Diane Von Furstenberg Fashion Show at Bloomingdales

As many of you know, I'm a lifestyle and relationship blogger. But what is lifestyle without fashion. Today I spent the day browsing through some of the latest trends and fashion in the Sherman Oaks Galleria with my love. I found myself passing by Bloomingdales, and figured, there's always time for Nespresso. So I gradually made my way upstairs to their Nespresso bar, and enjoyed a few cups of my favourite. Yes, a few cups! 

After being gifted some incredible Nespresso capsules, I walked passed the china, and headed back down to the second floor where I so casually found myself at the beginning of an event that was about to start. But wait! What was the hold up? The model hadn't showed up yet, and I might've seen a chicken without it's head running around. Seriously though, the employees and hosts were remaining calm, but they'd apologized for the few minute delay for the fashion show of Diane Von Furstenberg. No worries, there were pastries and champagne, so no one seemed to mind too much. 

My love and I decided to sit down and enjoy the show, and hey, I was all up for indulging in some sweets and champagne. After being seated for about 30 seconds, I was brought some sweets, and before I could even take a bite, I was scooped up and the next thing you know, I was modeling for Diane Von Furstenberg's incredible new trends. How cool was that! I figured, hey, why not! They swept me away, walked me downstairs to Chanel to have my makeup done, and at that point, shoes were all that they needed. Oh, and my dress size was perfect for them. The other model showed up after all, but we took turns doing our struts.

In case you've been in a fashion cave for some time, and you're unaware of who Diane Von Furstenberg is, you seriously need to Google her. She's an incredible fashion designer, the owner of a fashion company called DVF, and very well known for her gorgeous wrap dresses. She's incredibly big in the fashion industry, and as well as being a former Princess, she has a long list of other accomplishments. Tattoos and Mirrors - First Impressions 2.0

What do you see when you stand in front of a mirror?

Throw away the usual “myself” answer and really think about it. 

Some people see their imperfections. Others see their entire lifetime, struggles, challenges, successes and all. Looking at yourself can be a complicated process with very different outcomes. 

Well, unless you’re Ellen DeGeneres, then you always see awesomeness.

Now think about tattoos, whether you’re the “I like this unicorn picture, I want it on my forearm” or the “I went through some deep shit and now I need it on my body as a reminder” type of person, tattoos are a reflection of who you are, just like mirrors. Sometimes, a very complex one.

First impressions can sometimes shape a person’s entire attitude towards you and tattoos are a large part of that. Do you want them to be an accurate representation of you as a person? You can play the “I don’t care card” and disregard all this, but let’s face it, most of us care what others think about us, especially if we want to leave a good impression. In other words, you might want to re-think that Jesus tattoo you’re pondering on just because it’s “cool”.

The amount of inked people I’ve met with no idea what their tattoos symbolize is almost as frightening as that time my mom told me she likes Putin. I tend to assume that if someone plasters something on his body and makes it visible to everyone, he won’t mind talking about it, so I like asking the occasional question. My favorite answer so far is “yeah, man, it’s some kind of a badass women that was a feminist or something” from a guy with a Mary Magdalene tattoo taking up his entire back. I pride myself on not being a super judgmental person, but what would your first impression be in this case?

I thought so. First impressions used to be all about body language and how you express yourself, but if you think about it, tattoos are just an extension of that. They are one of the most imaginative forms of self-expression and often serve as a conversation starter as well. Every inked person I’ve met is proud or wants to be proud of his tattoos, and he (unfortunately and maybe subconsciously) often searches for others’ approval to accomplish that. These approvals or disapprovals are often formed the first time someone sees you, whether you want it or not, it’s in our nature to assume, so no surprise there.

Bottom line: Trust me, I’m not saying choose tattoos that other people will like, I’m saying: be careful with the way you express yourself permanently, because it may paint you as a completely different person than the one you are (or trying to be), and that may disappoint you in the long-run.

Coming from someone who thought long and hard before finally opening the door to that tattoo parlor: it’s worth it.

I waited for the axe to fall. It wasn’t a quick engagement. We dated a year, were engaged a year, and were ready for a wedding. Because my mother cannot cooperate or share, Josh and I volunteered to pay for the wedding ourselves; it was the only way it could happen. Enough said.

The day of the wedding came, and, yup, she just freaked out. She decided she wasn’t coming. Everyone was at the hotel including our Rabbi, but we couldn’t go forward without my parents. Oh yeah, she wouldn’t let my father come either. So who you gonna call, Ghostbusters? We had to have a way to keep 150 people entertained, while Max and I went back to my parents’ house and pleaded with my mother to attend and give me away with my father as planned.

While we were doing that, Dov and his crew dashed to our party, six hours earlier than scheduled, and they took over. Even though our ceremony was four hours late, no one ever guessed what was going on. They all just thought they were just having the best time ever being photographed by Dov and his crew of charming photographers. Yes, they also drank a lot of alcohol and nibbled food, but mainly they played in the photo booth. Dov and his people oohed and aahed over the guests and kept them busy thinking they were the stars of the day, until we could all get it together, redo hair and makeup that had been ruined by screaming and crying, and then walk down the aisle.

Not every wedding is as stressful as mine was, but not only did the pictures come out great, we made a new friend of a lifetime, Dov Viramontes. And when Josh told him what happened, do you think he charged us over-time? No, on the spot, he invented something he called the crazy Jewish mother discount.  My advice, even if you have normal parents, trust Dov…he’s not only the best photographer, he’s the nicest guy in the world.

Two Scoops Photography Does It Again

Hello everyone, I hope you're all enjoying this beautiful weekend in October. We're so fortunate to be living in the City of Los Angeles, that's so beautiful that even in October the sun shines so bright, giving off such a glisten to the ocean's natural beauty. Yesterday I had the best photo shoot by my partner photographer Jeffrey Branover from Two Scoops Photography (in case you didn't know, he also does SEO and writes an awesome and addicting SEO Services series on my blog). I wanted to share some of the amazing shots that Jeffrey took of me. He definitely has a way of capturing moments and he truly brings pictures to life.

One of the things I love about the photos that Jeffrey takes of me (and others) is that I rarely to never have to do any photo shop, and we all know how important it is to have those perfect looking pictures. It's pretty simple, you either have to do a lot of photo shop, get Botox, or have Jeffrey take your pictures! Seriously though, he's so talented and diligent at what he does, and he takes his work so seriously, but always tends to make me laugh. Another great shoot with Two Scoops Photography and I'm so glad that I'm one of the scoops!
